Five-year outcomes of endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty for the treatment of obesity

Via this prospective cohort study, researchers sought to report on the long-term safety and efficacy of endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty (ESG) for treatment of obesity. Participants were 216 patients (68% female; mean age: 46±13 years; mean BMI: 39±6 kg/m²) who underwent ESG in a single academic center. Mean TBWL (% total body weight loss) was 15.9% at 5 years; 90% and 61% of patients maintained 5% and 10% TBWL, respectively. Outcomes suggest that for treatment of obesity, ESG is safe and effective procedure, with durable long-term outcomes for at least up to 5 years after the procedure. They support considering this procedure as a reliable option for treating obesity.
