Testicular function after treatment for acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) in prepubertal and pubertal boys
Pediatric Hematology and Oncology, 10/13/09
Krawczuk-Rybak M et al. – The results show that treatment for ALL has a negative effect on spermatogenesis, regardless of the age at treatment and type of therapy
Methods- 59 male (27 prepubertal and 32 pubertal) survivors treated for ALL according to two different protocols
- Testicular function evaluated
- Serum inhibin B, FSH, testosterone, LH, and testicular volume measured
- In both groups mean values of inhibin B were lower than control
- Other analyzed parameters were comparable
- Inhibin B-to-FSH ratio reduced as compared to control
- Testicular volume lower than in healthy pubertal patients
