It is enough to block the sensory level to T12-L1 in spinal anesthesia for TURP. Especially in elderly patients who have various comorbidity, it is important to limit the block level in avoid to unstable hemodynamic changes. As the result of our study, low-dose dilute bupivacaine (0.25%, 4 mg) with fentanyl 25 mcg or sufentanil 5 mcg provided adequate anesthesia without hemodynamic instability for TURP in erlderly patients. However, sufentanil was superior to fentanyl in the quality of the spinal block produced.
