Makarov DV et al. – Men in both arms of this study experienced some decline in their quality of life as a result of treatment, but the difference between the groups was minor and, importantly, overall survival in the group randomized to receive radiation therapy was superior to that in the ADT–only group. Clinicians should feel comfortable counseling their patients that, if therapy for locally advanced prostate cancer is necessary, it should take the form of radiation therapy plus ADT rather than primary ADT alone.
