Guttman C - Compared with patch systems, the gel formulation is free of enhancers or occlusion that can worsen skin-site reactions, and also avoids production of the primary oxybutynin metabolite through first-pass metabolism. This pharmacokinetic profile may explain why there is less dry mouth with the topical gel.
