Kerr RR - Results of a milestone study on the use of an experimental form of immunotherapy may usher in a new era in the management of androgen-independent prostate cancer. If approved by the FDA, the agent, sipuleucel-T (Provenge), could markedly shift the paradigm for treating this most advanced form of the disease. Prostate cancer-specific survival also favored the sipuleucel-T arm of the study. Sipuleucel-T did not significantly delay time to progression, consistent with other trials in this patient population.
