This symposium enables researchers and clinicians involved in urologic research to interact and exchange important information regarding recent advances in the field of epigenetics and GU disorders. The meeting is structured as a forum for attendees to learn about the latest advancements in the field of epigenetics (e.g. micro-RNA, DNA methylation, histone modification, chromatin remodeling) and their applications to investigative research in GU diseases. Scientific exchange at this meeting will open up new avenues for the discovery of diagnostic/prognostic epigenetic biomarkers and for devising novel therapeutics for GU diseases. Key advancements in benign and malignant diseases of the bladder, prostate, and kidneys will be emphasized through a minisymposium on novel therapeutics and management strategies. Strategies to circumvent drug resistance including those related to androgen deprivation therapies for prostate cancer are highlighted in the symposium.
