Red meat cooked at high temperatures increases risk of advanced cancer of the prostate

Researchers at the University of Southern California have reported a risk between advanced cancer of the prostate and red meats cooked at high temperature, pan-frying, and prepared "well done." The study involved 1140 men with advanced cancer of the prostate, 717 men with localized cancer of the prostate, and 1096 healthy controls from the California Collaborative Prostate Cancer Study. There was an inverse association between baked poultry and advanced prostate cancer.

Risk factors for delirium post-radical cystectomy

Researchers at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine have reported that older age and the pre-operative MMSE results are associated with post-radical cystectomy (OR = 1.52) in patients > 65 years of age (n=49). The incidence of post-operative delirium was 29%. Further, patients with post-operative delirium were at increased risk for readmission (OR = 10.7) and re-operation (OR = 9.2).

PSA screening reduces risk of metastatic cancer of the prostate

As published in European Neurology, men (age range, 55-69 years) who undergo PSA screening are at decreased risk for metastatic cancer of the prostate. The study involved 76,813 men with a median follow-up of 12 y. There were 666 cases with metastatic cancer of the prostate(256 screened [.67%/1000] and 410 non-screened [.86%/1000]). The HR for men who were screened was 0.58.
