Lower extremity angioplasty: Impact of practitioner specialty and volume on practice patterns and healthcare resource utilization
Journal of Vascular Surgery, 10/21/09
Vogel TR et al. – Cardiologists performing lower extremity angioplasty were more likely to treat patients with claudication than those with rest pain or gangrene/ulceration. Despite treating younger patients with less severe peripheral vascular disease, cardiologists used significantly greater hospital resources. High practitioner volume, regardless of specialty, was associated with lower hospital resource utilization.
