Voriconazole is safe and effective as prophylaxis for early and late fungal infections following allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation

Martin T et al. – The data suggest that fungal prophylaxis with VOR following allogeneic transplantation is safe and effective.
Thomas Martin, 10/20/09
| Voriconazole is a broad spectrum azole with activity against yeast and mould infections. When used as prophylaxis following allogeneic transplantation at UCSF Medical Center, very few patients experienced invasive fungal infection. This is true for both early fungal infection (within 10 days) and delayed fungal infection (>120 days). A weight based dosing strategy was used to optimized therapeutic drug delivery. Overall, the drug was well tolerated with few patients requiring dose interruption due to toxicity. An increased incidence of resistant invasive fungal infections was not seen. |
