Kalliomaki ML et al. – The GRIK T/G polymorphism at codon 928 was found more often in the control population than in the pain group. For the GCH the homozygous pain protective haplotype was found altogether in five patients, four of which belonged to the control group. No other significant differences between the pain and control groups were seen. GRIK polymorphism, which has previously been shown to be associated with schizophrenia and major depression, may have some protective effect against persisting pain, although further studies are required to confirm this. The result for GCH is in agreement with previous studies.
