Cao CQ et al. – There was no significant difference in survival outcomes for CRLM and CRPC patients who achieved optimal resection. Selected CRPC patients with potentially resectable disease should be considered for CRS and PIC.

Thank you very much for your email. Our paper in Journal of Surgical Oncology concerns 46 colon cancer patients who underwent complete cytoreduction as part of peritonectomy and 237 patients who had margin negative liver resections for colon cancer. The 3 & 5 year survival rates of the two groups are almost identical as is the median survival. Patients with peritoneal spread of colon cancer should not be treated solely with intravenous chemotherapy which offers no chance of long-term survival. This paper excludes patients with appendix cancer from the peritonectomy group who have better survival prospects. Yours sincerely
