Comparative Study on Overexpression of HER2/neu and HER3 in Gastric Cancer
World Journal of Surgery, 07/30/09
Zhang XL et al. – The selective overexpression of HER2 and HER3 in the two histologic types of gastric cancer is strongly associated with a poor prognosis. Being an important member of the HER family, HER3 may become another candidate for molecular–targeted therapy in gastric cancer, especially for the diffuse histologic type.
Yun Sheng Yang, 08/01/09
| In our experiment we found the over-expression of HER3 is more often observed in the diffuse type of gastric cancer, while Her2 is in the intestinal type, which may indicate that her2 and her3 have different role in the pathogenesis of gastric cancer. In recent researches the role of her3 in the dedifferentiation of gastric caner has been highlighted and her3 was expected to be the candidate molecule in targeted-therapy in various cancers. But more studies should be done to document this issue. |
