Hahn HP et al. - This study provides evidence that metaplastic esophageal columnar epithelium without goblet cells shows phenotypic evidence of intestinal differentiation and supports the theory that squamous epithelium converts initially to nongoblet columnar epithelium before goblet cell metaplasia.
