The present results demonstrate that more effective drainage of pleural effusions leads into more rapid resolution of pleural opacity and quicker recovery of pulmonary function in patients with TB pleurisy. This is the first prospective randomised controlled study to show long-term benefi ts of early effective pigtail drainage in the treatment of loculated and/or free-flowing tuberculosis pleurisy.
