Koskinin E et al. – Two-thirds of the patients with PR developed chronic arthritis. The risk of developing chronic arthritis remained over 10 years. The RA group was characterized with functional declines and having joint replacements as longterm outcomes of the disease.
Methods- Cohort of patients with PR identified in 1967–84
- Reexamined in 1984–86.
- Medical records of the patients reviewed in 2006
- Analyzed the proportion of patients who developed chronic RA
- Analyzed proportion of patients having joint replacement surgery
- Analyzed proportion of patients who died.
- 40 patients developed chronic RA
- 24 patients had died by 2006,
- 9 patients (all in RA group) received 1 or more joint replacements
- Painful joints similar between the groups
