Graciela S. Alarcón, 08/31/09

It is not clear what the reasons for the differences btween the Mexican and Texan patients are. We could not confirm that the main reasons were socioeconomic although Mexians who choose to emigrate to the US are overall of a lower socioeconomic status than those who do not. Nevertheless our data should alert physicians managing patients of Hispanic origin in the US of their potential for having a severe disease and treat them accordingly; this will prevent undesirable outcomes in this minority population group.
