Davatchi F et al. - Colchicine, but not placebo, significantly improved the overall disease activity index. The difference between the results for colchicine and placebo was also statistically significant.

Exclusive Author Commentary
Fereydoun Davatchi, 07/17/09

Both in intention to treat analysis and in completed patients' analysis colchicine improved significantly mucocutaneous manifestations (oral aphthosis, genital aphthosis, and skin lesions) but not the placebo. No difference in the response rate was found between men and women, as reported before. A statistically significant difference was also found between colchicine and placebo for joint manifestations. Therefore, colchicine is an effective treatment in Behcet’s Disease for mucocutaneous and joint manifestations. However, its ability to improve, or to prevent from major organ involvement, is not yet demonstrated and warrants further studies.
