IgG subclass serum levels in systemic lupus erythematosus patients

Lin G et al. – Data suggest that differential increase of IgG subclasses during the course of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) may be of relevance to the pathogenesis of the disease.

Methods

Study was conducted to measure the serum levels of IgG subclasses in pts with SLE by immunonephelometric assay
Sera from 105 pts with SLE were used
Pts were divided into 2 groups according to clinical activity of the disease: active disease and remission
45 normal controls were also measured

Results

A significant increase of IgG1, IgG2, and IgG3 in SLE sera, while IgG4 values did not differ from those of controls
When pts were divided according to clinical activity, decrease of IgG3 concentration was observed in the pts in remission
In contrast, the concentrations of IgG1, IgG2, and IgG4 subclass were similar between the 2 groups
