Identification of candidate genes for susceptibility to reactive arthritis

Rihl M et al. - Gene expression data obtained from monocytes of ReA patients in remission identifies the highest ratios of the eight transcripts observed for the chemokine IP10 and the cytokine TNF-α.

• This study aimed at identifying mRNA transcripts in peripheral blood monocytes of ReA pts accounting for potential ReA susceptibility
• Gene expression profile in monocytes from 3 pts with reactive arthritis (ReA) in remission was evaluated

• Gene expression analyses revealed 8 differentially expressed mRNA transcripts
• The major part of genes encoded cytokines, growth factors and chemokines
• There was a remarkably high proportion of proangiogenic factors, in particular IP10, ENA-78, and IL-8 accounting for a genetically determined susceptibility to ReA at the host cell level
