- Identification of urate crystals in synovial fluid
- However, gout is frequently misdiagnosed, and management often falls below reasonable standards
- Treatment of gout:
- Main aim is to dissolve the deposited crystals
- Usually achieved by allopurinol, and new drugs will be available soon
