Pulmonary complications in human T-cell lymphotropic virus type 1 carriers with Sjögrens syndrome, three case reports and literature review
Rheumatology International, 05/14/09
Yu H et al. - Study report on three human T-cell lymphotropic virus type 1 (HTLV-1) carriers who showed interstitial pneumonia with Sjögren’s syndrome (SS). In these patients, the HTLV-1 infection appeared to be related to the pathogenesis of pulmonary complications as well as SS. A literature review focusing on the pathology of pulmonary complications in HTLV-1 carriers with SS was also done. Radiologic and pathologic findings were evaluated. Although the histologic diagnosis was considered to be hypersensitivity pneumonitis in case 1, and discordant usual interstitial pneumonia (UIP) in cases 2 and 3, lymphocytic alveolitis was observed in all cases.
