Health-related quality of life in children and adolescents with juvenile localized scleroderma
Rheumatology, 04/03/09
Orzechowski NM et al. – Study reports that juvenile localized scleroderma (JLS) patients have some impairment in skin disease-specific health-related quality of life (HRQOL) when compared with a healthy reference population, but not as severe as that seen in atopic dermatitis (AD) patients.
Methods- Aim was to examine HRQOL of children with JLS and to compare them with patients with AD and healthy controls
- 81 JLS pts; age- and sex-matched 75 AD pts and 75 healthy controls
- All pts were mailed a survey of KINDL and CDLQI
- Linear regression models, adjusted for age and sex, examined differences in the KINDL and CDLQI scores
- Survey completion rates in JLS, AD and healthy control groups were 40, 28 and 44%, respectively
- No difference in KINDL scores between JLS vs AD, and JLS vs healthy controls
- However, CDLQI scores showed some impairment in HRQOL in JLS pts vs healthy reference population, but not to the degree seen in AD
- HRQOL did not differ among the types of JLS with either measure
