Journal of Musculoskeletal Pain , 03/24/09
Bradley LA et al. - Review provides evidence of the relationships between specific candidate genes, the onset of fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) or other affective spectrum disorders, and pain sensitivity among persons with these conditions. Review focuses on:
- Genetic and other family influences on the development of FMS and chronic widespread pain (CWP)
- Evidence concerning aggregation of pain sensitivity and psychological distress among first-degree relatives of persons with FMS was assessed
- Validity of the affective spectrum disorder hypothesis was also studied
- Review also examines several prospective, population-based studies of factors that may contribute to the onset of CWP
