Intravenous lidocaine for fibromyalgia syndrome: An open trial

Schafranski MD et al – Findings suggest that intravenous lidocaine infusions are safe and effective in the management of fibromyalgia.
Methods- Study investigates the effect of iv infusions of lidocaine in pain and QoL of pts (n=23) with fibromyalgia
- 5 sequential iv 2% lidocaine infusions with rising dosages (2–5 mg/kg, d 1–5)
- Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQ), Health Assessment Questionnaire, and a VAS for pain were applied before the first lidocaine infusion, immediately after the fifth infusion and 30 days after the fifth infusion
- An improvement was observed in FIQ scores after the fifth infusion, which was maintained after 30 d
- Similar results were seen concerning the VAS
