Mycophenolate mofetil for the treatment of juvenile onset SLE: A multicenter study

Falcini F et al. - Mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) seems to be effective and safe for the treatment of juvenile-SLE, especially in patients with no renal involvement.
Methods- A multicenter study to evaluate the efficacy and safety of MMF in controlling the disease activity in children and adolescents with juvenile-SLE
- MMF was effective in reducing the disease activity or as a steroid-sparing agent in 54% pts
- Stabilised the disease in 31%; was ineffective in 15%
- In pts w/o renal involvement, a good response was registered in 69%
- Among pts with renal involvement, MMF was effective in 38%; partially effective in 31%; ineffective in 31%
- No severe SEs were observed; only 2 pts stopped the drug because of severe diarrhoea and abdominal pain
