The use of radiotherapy for the treatment of localized orbital amyloidosis

Khaira M et al. - Study shows that external beam radiotherapy following surgical debulking halts the progression of localized orbital amyloidosis, thus may be used in conjunction with surgical debulking.
Methods- Study describes the response of 2 amyloidosis pts to surgical debulking followed by external beam radiotherapy
- Stabilization or regression of orbital signs after treatment were measured
- Pts received 34 and 30 Gy fractionated external beam radiotherapy
- Clinical case notes and histopathology were reviewed
- A 69-year-old man with orbital amyloid deposition in association with localized MALT lymphoma had a marked improvement in orbital signs
- No recurrence observed over 2 yrs
- A 59-year-old woman showed regression of disease with no evidence of recurrence after 6 yrs of f/u
