Suyani E et al. – Ongoing subclinical inflammation may be associated with decreased bone mineral content in familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) patients. Methods
Study to investigate the association between FMF and osteoporosis (OP) in adult pts
35 attack-free FMF pts were individually matched to control subjects on the basis of age and sex
All pts were taking regular colchicine
Subjects having any condition that can cause decreased BMD were excluded
BMD was measured at the spine and femur by dual X-ray absorptiometry
Results
T scores of the spine were -0.700 and -0.450 in FMF pts and healthy controls, respectively
T scores of the femur neck were -0.900 and -0.430 in FMF pts and healthy controls, respectively
Total femur T scores were lower in FMF pts than healthy controls
Total femur T scores were decreased in adult pts with FMF
