The TrendWatch report, prepared by Washington, DC-based Avalere Health LLC, a health care policy-consulting firm, shows that hospitals are strong contributors to the U.S. economy and a steady source of employment, even during recessions. Yet, increases in health care expenditures typically are not thought of as positive indicators of the nation’s fiscal health.
