Ojeda–Fournier H et al. – By consistently and appropriately utilizing the standard lexicon and assigning the appropriate ACR BI–RADS final assessment categories, radiologists specializing in breast imaging will effectively communicate findings, degree of concern for malignancy, and recommendations to both clinicians and patients. Although problems persist with the system, including the issues of inter– and intraobserver variabilities, multiple studies have validated the efficacy of the descriptors and assessment categories.
