Arterial occlusion caused by a non-adsorbable bone graft after open wedge tibial osteotomy
The Knee, 09/28/09
Schäfer R et al. – The authors report a case of a near fatal complication of an open wedge high tibial osteotomy held by a Puddu plate. CT–scan and lysis therapy revealed a compression of the popliteal artery by the implanted hydroxyapatite wedge resulting in ischaemia of the lower limb. Revision surgery was performed and the prominent part of the wedge was removed, however two toes had to be amputated due to the initial tissue damage.
