Ultrasound guidance for periradicular injections in the lumbar spine: A review article
Techniques in Regional Anesthesia and Pain Management, 09/23/09
Galiano et al. – Periradicular infiltrations in the lumbar spine are an established procedure in the management of pain. These injections are preferentially performed as computed tomography or fluoroscopically controlled interventions. Ultrasound (US) imaging is also applicable for lumbar periradicular injections. It requires a systematic proceeding, knowledge in US imaging techniques of the lumbar paravertebral region, and practice in handling a transducer in combination with a needle. In the authors' experience, lumbar spinal periradicular infiltrations are feasible in most patients.
