McArthur DR et al. – CTC is an accurate technique to assess for significant synchronous lesions in patients with colorectal cancer and is applicable for total pre–operative colonic visualisation.

Exclusive Author Commentary
S. Roy-Choudhury, 09/11/09

Even in our early experience, without the use of currently available software tools, CT Colonography appeared to be an accurate method for total colonic visualisation prior to surgery in patients with colorectal cancer in a large series. This is in addition to its role in staging for colon cancer. We hope to improve the results further with routine 3D reads, electronic subtraction, reduced preparation colonography and computer assisted detection. In the future this technique may also be used for follow up after colonic resection
