Prediction model of chemotherapy response in osteosarcoma by 18F-FDG PET and MRI
The Journal of Nuclear Medicine, 08/19/09
Cheon GJ et al. – Combined infomration of 18F-FDG PET and MRI scans, acquired before and after chemotherapy, could be used to predict histologic response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy in osteosarcoma.
Methods- 70 consecutive patients with a high-grade osteosarcoma
- Prospective study
- All patients underwent 18F-FDG PET and MRI before and after neoadjuvant chemotherapy
- Patients with a SUV2 ≤ 2 had a good histologic response
- Patients with a SUV2 > 5 had a poor histologic response
- For patients with a SUV2 < 2 and ≤ 5, response was predicted by MVCR
- A MVCR < 0.65 was a good responder; a MVCR ὅ 0.65 was a poor responder
- The predictive values for good responders and poor responders were 97% and 95%, respectively

| As the PET image is an 3-dimensional value, the idea of combining the volume change during preoperative chemotherapy with PET value is the essence of this study. Furthermore, dividing any cohort into three group might reveal actual situation than binary grouping. |
