Improving Care at Cystic Fibrosis Centers through Quality Improvement
Seminars in Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, 09/25/09
Kraynack NC et al. – This article illustrates how the clinical microsystems methodology can improve care delivery and outcomes by describing the gradual application of quality improvement principles over the past 5 years by the CF team at the Lewis Walker Cystic Fibrosis Center at Akron Children's Hospital in Akron, Ohio. Using the example of a project to improve the pulmonary function of the pediatric patients at their center as a framework, the authors describe the QI process from the initial team–building phase, through the assessment of care processes, standardization of care, and developing a culture of continuous improvement.
