Sweat Gland Bioelectrics Differ In Cystic Fibrosis: A New Concept For Potential Diagnosis And Assessment Of Cftr Function In Cystic Fibrosis
Thorax, 09/14/09
Gonska T et al. – The results support the concept that skin surface voltages arising from stimulated sweat glands can be exploited to assess expressed CFTR function in vivo and may prove to be a useful diagnostic tool.
Paul M. Quinton, 09/29/09
| Next to the classic sweat test, nasal and rectal potential difference measurements, we have developed an alternative, as accurate, but easier technique to monitor CFTR function in vivo. The idea behind this project was actually driven by the increasing demand for a more ready-to-use outcome parameter to assess the efficacy of drugs aiming to cure CF disease in future clinical trials. Consequent studies will be directed to further evaluate the diagnostic potential of this new test. |
