Watz H et al. - In this study almost half of the patients with chronic bronchitis/COPD had a coexisting metabolic syndrome, with a slightly lower frequency in severe COPD. The coexisting metabolic syndrome is associated with an increase of some systemic inflammatory markers and physical inactivity independent of lung function impairment.
