MicroRNA Signature of Malignant Mesothelioma with Potential Diagnostic and Prognostic Implications
American Journal of Respiratory Cell and Molecular Biology, 06/09/09
Busacca S et al. - The preliminary analysis suggests miRNAs as potential diagnostic and prognostic markers of mesothelioma and suggests novel tools for the therapy of this malignancy.
Giovanni Gaudino, 06/09/09
| This is the first complete profiling of miRNA expression of malignant mesothelioma cells and tissues, compared to gene expression analysis to identify miRNA targets expressed by the same cells, suitable for innovative molecular therapies, Moreover, this study identifies signfiicant differences in miRNA expression among epithelial/biphasic and sarcomatoid histotypes. Finally, the lower espression levels of two miRNAs (miR-17-5p and miR-30c) correlates to better sarcomatoid patient survival, indicating the prognostic role of miRNAs for this malignancy. |
