Serum level of arginine-vasopressin influences the prognosis of extensive-disease small-cell lung cancer
Journal of Cancer Research & Clinical Oncology, 08/05/2007
Umemura, S., et al. - The data suggest that the serum LDH level and performance status (PS) are the poor prognostic factors for extensive-disease small-cell lung cancer (ED-SCLC). The serum arginine-vasopressin (AVP) level may be a more useful factor than serum-sodium level
Methods- Clinical records of 163 patients with ED-SCLC were investigated retrospectively
- The influence of 14 pretreatment variables on survival was analyzed
- Elevation of serum LDH level and poor performance status (PS >= 2) were independent poor prognostic factors
- High serum AVP level was related to poor prognosis (tested in 34 pts)
- Serum-sodium level did not affect the survival
- Median serum level of osmotic pressure in 34 pts was normal, although serum osmotic pressure was low in 4/6 pts with high serum AVP level
- In all patients with high serum AVP level, LDH level was elevated
