The role of leptin and cortisol in hyperactivity in patients with acute and weight-recovered anorexia nervosa
Progress in Neuro-Psychopharmacology and Biological Psychiatry, 05/18/09
Ehrlich S et al. - Leptin levels but not cortisol significantly contributed to the prediction of PA in acAN. In recAN PA was not elevated and not related to endocrine parameters but correlated positively with core eating disorder symptoms.
Stefan Ehrlich, 05/18/09
Elevated physical activity (PA) is a core clinical symptom of patients with acute anorexia nervosa. It is closely related to malnutrition. In our paper we show that PA is associated with peripheral leptin levels even after controlling for the effects of BMI in patients with acute anorexia but not in recovered patients. This is in line with previous research. A recent report suggested a correlation between PA and cortisol. However, in our work PA was not related to cortisol levels. |
