Alcalay RN et al. – Glucocerebrosidase (GBA) mutation status may be an independent risk factor for cognitive impairment in patients with Parkinson disease (PD).
Dr. Alcalay (05/21/2012) comments:
Parkinson's disease (PD) is very heterogeneous. Some people affected by the disease develop cognitive problems while others either do not develop cognitive problems or develop these late in the disease course. There are known risk factors for cognitive impairment in PD including older age and longer disease duration. Here, we show that GBA mutations may be an independent risk factor for cognitive problems.
