The hospital specializes in maternal/child health, surgical services on both an inpatient and extensive outpatient basis, urological services including lithotripsy, cancer care with state-of-the-art radiation therapy, rehabilitation therapy programs and a wide array of diagnostic imaging capabilities.

We are seeking an experienced Physician Assistant - Neurosurgery. Current Virginia Physician Assistant License with one (1) to two (2) years of Surgical PA experience. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn, so we are seeking people who are excited about a challenge.

Position requires working in the OR for 2 to 3 days a week and the rest of the week in the clinic. Position will rotate call, OR duties, Inpatient rounding and Neurosurgical Clinic with other Mid Level Providers.

Assists the supervising physician in the management of patients, and performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures under the physician's supervision. The P.A. works closely and assists the physician in providing quality, efficient and continuous cost-effective care.

Responsibilities

Provides patient services under the direct supervision and responsibility of the designated supervising staff physician, including assisting surgical physician in surgical cases, obtaining medical and personal histories, participating in hospital and ICU rounds, educating patients and families, and prioritizing and assessing patients.

PARTICIPATES IN PATIENT CARE ACTIVITIES, INCLUDING HOSPITAL ROUNDS, PATIENT EDUCATION, ICU ROUNDS AND ASSISTING IN THE DICTATION OF DISCHARGE SUMMARIES.

*Documents involvement with patient care, promptly, accurately, and completely.

ASSISTS IN SURGICAL PROCEDURES.

*Acts as first assistant in surgical procedures in the main operating room and performs minor procedures independently under the supervision of the surgeon.

PROVIDES COUNSELING AND EDUCATION TO PATIENT AND FAMILIES.

*Communicates all relevant information to patients and family members in a calm and professional manner.

PARTICIPATES IN RESEARCH ACTIVITIES.

*Participates in research activities if required.

MAINTAINS EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATIN WITH SUPERVISING PHYSICIAN AND OTHER PATIENT CARE GIVERS REGARDING PATIENT CARE DECISINS.

*Communicates in a clear and concise manner any information that may influence the patient's treatment program or well-being, including preparing clinical progress notes and other required documentation in a timely manner and in accordance with policies.

*Dictates or records complete and accurate information in patients' records.
