Caravita T et al. – Immunomodulatory drugs (IMiDs) exert various effects on the immune system, altering cytokine production, regulating T cell costimulation and enhancing NK cell cytotoxicity. Particularly, IMiDs inhibit tumour necrosis factor–alfa (TNF–alfa), playing an important role in immune response against bacterial and virus infections. Moreover, lenalidomide causes myelosuppression, mainly neutropenia, that is an important risk factor for infections.
