In a final analysis of PATRICIA recently published in the Lancet, researchers found that human papillomavirus (HPV)–16/18 AS04–adjuvanted vaccine (Cervarix—GlaxoSmithKline) is highly effective against HPV types 16 and 18, the two most common types of viruses that cause cervical cancer, and that it provides cross–protection against HPV types 31, 33, and 45, the three most common cancer–causing virus types after 16 and 18.
