Prime Therapeutics, a pharmacy benefit manager based in St. Paul, recorded the slowest drug spending growth rate on record in this past year's Drug Trend Insights report. Prime’s members spent only 0.9% more on drugs in 2008 than in 2007, while spending on traditional drugs—which does not include specialty or biotechnology medications—actually decreased by 0.5%. These rates compare favorably with national trends of approximately 3.0% to 3.9%.
