Burke R et al. – Treatment of TB can be difficult, requiring long courses of many medications to treat active disease. Treatment of latent TB is uniquely complex because patients lack signs and symptoms of the disease but are treated with long courses of therapy. Adherence to treatment is essential for avoiding drug–resistant TB and treatment failure. Providers who treat TB must strive for successful treatment of the disease as a matter of public health. Pharmacists who are involved in the treatment of TB are in an ideal position to encourage medication adherence.
