Effect of a Warfarin Adherence Aid on Anticoagulation Control in an Inner-City Anticoagulation Clinic Population
Annals of Pharmacotherapy, 06/24/09
Nochowitz B et al. - Use of a monthly medication organizer significantly reduced the percent of subtherapeutic INR values and improved the time spent within the therapeutic anticoagulation range among previously nonadherent patients managed in an inner-city anticoagulation clinic.
Dr. Cavallari, 06/25/09
| The goal of clinicians managing anticoagulant therapy is to improve the time spent within the therapeutic range. Poor adherence is a major reason for a patient's INR value to be out of therapeutic range. Despite the use of warfarin as an anticoagulation for over 60 years, there are surprisingly little data on methods to improve adherence to warfarin. Ultimately, improving adherence to warfarin could improve anticoagulation control and reduce the risk for adverse events during warfarin therapy. |
