Recently there has been an increase in the diagnosis of major depressive disorder in school-aged children and adolescents. MDD can be triggered by multiple stressors and carries the potential for comorbid conditions in this patient population. There are 3 major guidelines available to assist in treatment decisions for children and adolescents with MDD. These guidelines direct medication selection and monitoring through a review of clinical evidence.
