Pesaturo KA et al. - There are many options for the application and delivery of topical anesthesia in children, and most of them are safe and effective when used appropriately. Choice of product may be narrowed down to patient and provider preference, ease of administration, or cost. While the product used during the delivery of topical anesthesia prior to peripheral venous access procedures varies by institution, care should always be taken to ensure appropriate pain control in pediatric patients.
