Jackowski L et al. - Clopidogrel and aspirin both inhibit platelet aggregation, but have differing mechanisms of action that are additive in terms of antithrombotic function. The additive antithrombotic effect of aspirin and clopidogrel combination therapy provides additional clinical benefit compared to monotherapy in some circumstances, but the risk of major bleeding with combination therapy is greater than with either agent alone.
